Year 11 students bid farewell to the Academy
On Thursday 21 May, The Gateway Academy bid an emotional final farewell to 180 Year 11 students as they attended their last lessons before starting study leave.
A year after moving to the new £38 million site, these are the first students that have fully benefitted from the state of the art facilities and Academy status.
Principal, Kevin Sadler, said “I am enormously proud of our young people, they have worked really hard over the last year and we expect them to be the most successful group in the history of both the Academy and its predecessor schools. Our data shows that up to 80% of this cohort will achieve the Government’s benchmark standard of five or more A-C grades at GCSE”.
Students commented, “I have enjoyed coming to The Gateway Academy. Teachers in the school are fabulous, without them I wouldn’t have achieved as much”.
“I had a lot of opportunities here like skiing and the visit to Poland – thanks!”.
