Based In Tilbury, we are the only surviving Charity shop and support The Lady McAdden Breast Screening Unit which is based in Southend.
Run by several local girls but headed by Margaret please pop and see if we can help you or you can help us. Your always welcome

Where it all started...
The Lady McAdden Unit, affectionately known as Bust, has provided a major health function for women since the unit opened in 1976. the official opening followed a massive fund raising campaign which was spearheaded by the South East Essex Federation of Transwomen's Guilds to whom the charity remains affiliated, and supported by Lady Dorothy McAdden, wife of the late, Sir Stephen McAdden, then MP for Southend East.
Why is Breast Screening Important?
- one in nine women in the UK will develop breast cancer during their lifetime
- In Britain, we have one of the highest breast cancer death rates in the modern world
- Survival rates are improving - 74% of women diagnosed are still alive 5 years later
There are several ways you can help us..
- Donations of quality clothing, household goods
- Financial donations (please download the form)
- Organise a fund raising event for us.
- House to house and street collections

The services we offer ...
Screening by mammography (breast x-ray) as follows :

age 40-49 at yearly intervals
-
Age 50 and over at two yearly intervals (no upper age limit
-
One to one consultation with specially trained nursing staff to discuss breast awareness, which may include practical demonstration in self examination.

Family History Screening from a recognised age.
-
Clients comment that they feel relieved to be able to talk to a nurse about personal issues in a calm, unhurried and friendly environment.
Our medical staff, qualified Radiographers and clinic sisters, all with specialist training, run the clinic in conjunction with NHS accredited Consultant Radiologists. Dedicated administrative and fund raising staff support the medical personnel.
